We’ve Moved!
Message from the Manager
It may be just me, but the start of 2026 has already felt five years long!
While we can’t slow down time, I’m constantly reminded of the love and support we have from our incredible community. From the volunteers who helped assemble shelving and stock our shelves, to the clients who embraced these operational changes with grace, to the donors who made this new building possible and filled it with food; each of you are such an important part of our local food pantry!
There are more changes ahead, and I’m deeply grateful for your patience as we navigate this exciting period of growth together.
Kristin Jahne, Pantry Manager
Our New Building
After years of dreaming and planning of this space, and only 5 days to make it all happen, we are officially moved into our beautiful new addition.
There are an unlimited number of people to thank, but a special shoutout goes to our incredible volunteers who dedicated over 165 hours during this time for this intensive move! We are so grateful for all of the community support shown by everyone, both donors and clients alike, and we know this is the next chapter of many.
We will temporarily be in our new building addition while the construction team renovates the historic schoolhouse. If you’re visiting us, please park in the large lot (where the OPEN flag is). We are open to serving clients through all programs, including monthly shopping, Produce Day, Vacation Nutrition, and Senior Day.
The full renovation will be complete later this summer, with a ribbon cutting just in time for our 45th birthday! Stay tuned for more details in the upcoming months.
Blizzard Response
When we got the call after the blizzard from the NK School Dept asking for help to feed hungry children without access to school lunches, we didn’t think twice! Staff and volunteers at the NKSD delivered 2400 meals total at 8 locations around town, as well as several deliveries to students still stuck in their house.
It truly takes a village and we were happy to play a small part in this incredible feat!
The Countdown is On!
401Gives begins March 31
This year, the NK Food Pantry is teaming up with nonprofits around the state and participating in 401Gives. This special day is the perfect opportunity to donate to organizations that share a passion for helping those in need.
Nowadays, the need is higher than ever. Food costs are rising at an alarming rate and we are seeing a surge of new clients who need assistance. In Rhode Island, almost 40% of people identify as food insecure, and 1 in 12 households in North Kingstown are low-income.
On March 31st, visit www.401gives.org/organizations/nk-food-pantry and make a donation to us and/or to any of the great participating nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island.
All giving will end at 6:00PM on April 1
Thank you St. Bernard!
We are so thankful to be the recipient of the St. Bernard’s “Soup-er Bowl Challenge" again. This year, we received hundreds of pounds of soup, and fully restocked our shelves (and then some!)
Thank you to Fr. Gaffney and everyone at St. Bernard’s- your continued support means so much!
A Fond Farewell
The Board of Directors thank Stephen Souls for his many years of service and contributions to the NK Food Pantry. His time here was part of an important chapter in our history. We wish him the very best in his retirement!
