Why We Do This

Why We Do This

So often, I find myself getting wrapped up in the daily details of running the Pantry - ordering food, tracking data from our programs, coordinating schedules with volunteers, and ongoing tasks that never end.

But over the past few months, I’ve spent intentional time listening to the stories of our clients and volunteers. Their experiences, their challenges, and their expressions of gratitude have reminded me so clearly of why we do this work.

The conversations have been deeply moving and reminded me that behind every task is a person we're here to help!

Kristin Jahne, Pantry Manager

Stories Like This Are Why Your Help Matters

"The staff of the North Kingstown Food Pantry knows my story; they know my circumstances. I am a single dad to three kids. They knew exactly what my family needed. They were and continue to be a lifeline for my kids and me. We are truly so grateful." - Client since 2023

NK Food Pantry Around Town!

Pantry staff, Kristin Jahne and Stephen Souls, recently represented the pantry at Savor the Sunset - a North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce event held at Tilted Barn Brewery in Exeter and Wickford Harbor Fire - an event in historic Wickford Village.

Kristin and Stephen met guests and answered questions from many of our local businesses and members of the community. They shared stories of the pantry’s impact, explained how donations directly support local families, and highlighted the many ways individuals and organizations can get involved.

We’re thankful to the NK Chamber of Commerce, the Wickford Harbor Fire group, and the Wickford Village Association for organizing these events, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to stop by and learn more about our mission.

Look for us and our volunteer 'street team' as we attend more events in our community this summer!

Recipe of the Month

Chicken Pot Pie Casserole

At the Food Pantry, we love sharing delicious, nutritious meals with our clients that you can make at home. This month’s feature has been a comforting Chicken Pot Pie Casserole made with chicken, carrots, onions, green beans, potatoes with an optional golden breadcrumb topping. It’s simple, satisfying, and family-friendly. As always, this recipe with all ingredients has been available at the Pantry when our clients come in and shop.

Thank You For Your Donations!

June is always a challenging month for food donations here at the pantry. This month, our community stepped up and helped to fill our shelves. We would especially like to thank Girl Scout Troop 1278 for donating dozens of boxes of Girl Scout cookies as a special treat for our clients. Edward Jones donated hundreds of snacks for our Vacation Nutrition Program. The North Kingstown Police Department's annual, "Fill The Cruiser" Food Drive resulted in over 500 lbs. of food donations. At Davisville Middle School, the annual end of school year Silk Road Market event netted over 700 lbs. of food for the pantry.

We are so lucky to have such great community support! Thank you to North Kingstown and our surrounding communities for your continued donation efforts.
