Autumn is Here!

October 2020 Newsletter

Welcome to Autumn!

Happy Fall Pantry Supporters!

As the stimulus money has stopped for many people, we are starting to get more calls to the Pantry. We need your help to tell people that the NK Pantry has food and we want to feed families. Please tell people that they can contact the Pantry by calling 401-885-3663, and make an appointment. In order to get the word out, we are starting a Facebook campaign, we are reaching out to local churches, the schools, and other places, so people know that they can turn to us for free food. We are also taking names for Thanksgiving Day baskets. The baskets contain the fixings for a turkey dinner plus a week’s worth of groceries. Last year we gave over 400 Thanksgiving baskets and turkeys. We are buying enough food to feed 500 people for 2020. To get a Thanksgiving basket, people should call the Pantry, and sign up early. Families can leave a message if we cannot answer. Our mission is to feed the hungry people in North Kingstown; so to borrow a saying from a popular Dr. Seuss’s book, the Pantry wants all people who need food in NK to know: “We are Here! We are here! We are here!”

Welcome Aboard

The NK Food Pantry board wants to welcome Father David Proccacini of St. Francis de Sales, as the pastoral representative to our board. We are happy to have him join us for the next two years and help us coordinate with the faith community.
Donna M. (Primrose) Evans, age 70, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 3, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Charles “Chip” J. Evans for 49 years. She was the daughter of the late Emily (Wissler) Page. Donna was a long time volunteer at the Pantry.

Unique Year,
Unprecedented Needs

It’s the year 2020. I wish we had 20/20 vision to foresee this year’s turkey requests. But we do not. Last year, the NK Food Pantry served 419 households for Thanksgiving – including turkeys, the fixings and more. This year, we expect an increase in need as families cope with challenging circumstances. To give every household something to celebrate and a sense of normalcy this holiday season, we’re asking our donors to support this year’s Thanksgiving campaign.

We can’t thank Nick, Frank and the team at Kingstown Liquor Mart enough for their overwhelming support for the NKFoodPantry. Donations received continue to help us feed those in need in the North Kingstown community during this continuing crisis. At the start of the pandemic, the Fede’s of Kingstown Liquor Mart decided to offer curbside pick up and to donate the collected tips to the North Kingstown Food Pantry. Since they started, they’ve collected and donated $12,000 to the Pantry! Great job!

Thank you, Stacey, a volunteer at Amenity Aid, for bringing a donation of toothbrushes and soaps to help fill the demand for hygiene items during this continuing crisis. For more info on how Amenity Aid provides for the community, go to their web site at: www.amenityaid.org
