August 2020 Newsletter
Happy summer everyone! If you have driven by the Pantry, you saw we have a new paved parking lot, courtesy of a Champlin Foundation grant. We also constructed a second ramp to make access to the Pantry easier and safer. We planned for this change for two years and are excited that it finally came to fruition.
The Pantry continues to follow the RI Health guidelines for our small space. We are preparing bags of groceries and delivering them to clients’ cars, rather than allowing clients to shop in the Pantry. Because of the Coronavirus, we will not have our annual August Volunteer & Donor picnic. We still appreciate the great outpouring of donations we received from the North Kingstown community! We are anticipating an uptick in clients if the federal stimulus package is not renewed. If you know of someone who needs help, please give them our telephone number or our email address. Our mission is to feed and assist the hungry people of North Kingstown, we do not turn anyone away. We thank you for your support!
Among the many chores Richard Jacques, our Board V.P., performs is picking up “change jar” collections from local merchants such as Allie’s Donuts. Their customers are always generous. Then he takes it to the Pawtucket Credit Union where they make their coin counter available – no charge of course. Never shy, Richard struck up a conversation with a gentleman who was having trouble with the coin counter. After helping the stranger with his problem, Richard regaled him with the story of the Pantry. It must have struck a cord because the anonymous man promptly donate his coin savings to the Pantry. Thanks, Friend for your kind donation of $75.
